Chronic Urethritis

lenmar11 posted:
I am a female in my late twenties and was recently diagnosed, by a urologist, with having Chronic Urethritis which means I am very prone to getting urinary tract infections. I have periods of having to go to the bathroom often (with not much coming out), periods of feeling pressure and pain in my bladder (mostly in the evening) and times when I feel slight burning when I urinate. Then I have periods of no symptoms at all.

So my urologist put me on an antibiotic to get rid of any lingering infections and kept me on the antibiotic for about 6months now. The symptom free periods have lasted longer now but are not completely gone and I hate taking antibiotic this long (it makes my stomach hurt). I had a cystoscopy (when urologist looks into bladder with a scope) done and everything was normal.

So my question is, does anyone out there have the problems I have and what are you doing to help ease the symptoms/solve the symptoms etc. ?

Have you noticed eating acid foods makes it's worse or that sex aggravates your condition? I've been dealing w/a stinging/burning urethra for 2 months and doctors tell me I'm fine, but I know this isn't normal. I have googled tons of things and it keeps pulling up Interstitial Cystitis. Try googling that and see if those symtoms sounds similar to yours. A UTI triggered all of this nightmare for me. I feel your pain.

I have had similar symptoms for almost three years... I've seen two urologists and two gynos.. one said I had a narrowed urethra and performed a urethral dilation which did nothing!!! and the other said I had acute urethritis.. My regular gyno says I have yeast infections but never test positive for yeast in cultures.. and the last one referred me to someone else assuming it was interstitial cystitis.. I have symptoms almost daily (i.e. burning after urination, burning for no reason, irritation of urethra and vular? area.. and painful intercourse) I used to get UTIs all the time(8 in three months) but now I don't get them although it feels like I'm about to. Try looking up "native remedies." They have herbal treatments for bladder infections. I used them for 6 weeks and then only when I would start to get an infection.. I haven't taken antibiotics for UTIs since..(They hurt my stomach too.) I'm trying to find answers for the other symptoms. I've come up with vulvar vestibulitis, vulvodynia, interstitial cystitis, and urthritis... Just want a diagnosis.. I'm done with the doctor visits and high medical bills!!! Also I try using a cortizone cream on the outside areas to reduce inflammation.. Let me know if anything helps!! Good luck!

Frustrated711- have they checked you for Interstitial Cystitis or Vulvadynia? My symptoms are EXACTLY like yours. Do you have frequent/urgent urination? Have you tried the IC diet to see if that helps?

I've seen two urologists who both said they didn't think that its IC.. mostly because my pain is very localized to my urethra and I don't have much bladder pain except during intercourse.. I had a cystoscopy that came back with just some irritation.. Also I guess with IC they want you to go at least three months testing negative for bladder infections but still presenting symptoms.. I've tested positive alot for UTI's so they daignosed it as "acute" urethritis but its been almost three years now.. I've never tried the IC diet.. I do notice that when I get nervous or in the evening I get almost like bladder spasms that caused mild urgency... I don't go alot but the burning usually comes after I pee or after a shower?? I never understood the shower thing.. Is yours a daily thing? How long have you had it? and does the IC diet help you?

My pain is almost daily as well. There are some times during the day when I almost feel "normal" and then all of a sudden I feel irritated again. I have tried the IC diet, but to be honest, I haven't noticed anything I eat really makes me feel worse. My urethra feels like it's stinging right before I am about to pee and it stings as soon as the pee first starts to come out and then it's gone, but after I'm done it will return a few minutes most of the time. This has robbed me of the happy, outgoing person I once was. Depression is setting in. How have you delt w/this for 3 years?! All of my urine cultures have come back negative for UTI besides the first one they tested which is when all the problems started.

Mine is EXACTLY like that! Sometimes I can go more than a couple days and then it hits outta no where.. mine started folowing a kidney infection almost 3 years ago. Its really hard every day but I'm starting tp take matters into my own hands and trying to heal my mind and body together and naturally. (Cuz honestly all the medication for this makes me sick. ) I've been doing research and a girlfriend of mine who was diagnosed with IC started seeing a natural doctor and here's what I'm trying next: A tsp of coconut oil with breakfast, a shot of aloe vera juice and a shot of zinc with lunch and a dietary supplement called Cataplex GTF with dinner... This is what her doctor prescribed. She's been off work for 5 months and she said after the first shot of aloe vera juice she feels relief.. I'm tryin it! It can't hurt and I really do believe that there's no reason why we can't cure this ourself. Especially if there's nothing "seriously" wrong.. Try it with me and let me know how it helps you.. We'll hold hands and jump! Good luck!!

Be careful that you account for the coconut oil especially in your daily calorie and oil allowance. It can cause pound creep. It is good to hear some alternative remedies for this though and to hear that they have worked for someone. Keep us updated.

Can you tell us more of what the shot of zinc is and with the aloe vera juice-is that a shot glass serving or ?

Frustrated - have you tried the stuff you mentioned and if so, has it helped? I REALLY hope so!! Is the Zinc in a liquid form?

Good luck and keep us posted! Remember, you might need to give it a few days/weeks to see if it has helped at all!! My fingers are crossed and I'm praying it works!

addie726 I am also a female going through the exact same thing! I am getting very discouraged since it has been 2 years of every 3-4 weeks having a UTI. i have seen 2 different doctors and no one ahs answers. I also have that pressure feeling and it mostly at night also. The Cipro is killing me, i can not even leave the house when I am on them. On top of this now I am having multible Kidney stones. If ANYONE has any advise for the UTI please let me know. This problem is getting very depressing for me!

I don't know if i'm allowed to tell but I googled Native remedies.com and they have something called UTI clear that you take for 3 weeks straight and then only when you start to get an infection.. It has no side effects and I haven't taken an antibiotic for a year and half for my UTI's,.. I would get Uti's ater sex EVERY time and that stuff saved me... Good luck!!

hi there. I am 24 years old and since i was 17 i have been cursed with this every day. As i write this i am currently doubled over in pain. This has ruined my life, and is goin to take away everythin i worked so hard for. Noone will listen, they say everythings normal and i know its not. I found cutting out wheat and dairy to slightly help but all of the other pills etc and nothing works. I try to constantly drink water but to be honest i've lost the will to live. I'm sorry this won't have helped but your not alone at least. X x
