    Exciting News for WebMD Members!

We've been busy behind the scenes building new message boards for you. You'll have new and easier ways to find messages, connect with others, and share your stories.

And, this will all be available on your smartphone or other mobile device!

What Do You Need to Do?

The message board you're used to will be closing in the coming weeks. While many of your boards will be making the move to our new home, your posts will not. Want to keep a discussion going? Save posts you want to continue (this includes your member profile story), so that you can re-post them in the new message boards.

Keep an eye here and on your email inbox, we'll be back in touch soon to give you all the information you need!

    Would condom catheters help?

My uncle struggles with incontinence and hates adult diapers. He thinks they make him feel like a baby. Have you or anyone you know tried condom catheters. I had him check out this website about them and I think he is interested, but not sure how well they will seal up.

    Any thoughts?

Hello there, I would say that from what i have seen they work very well. The first step he is going to want to take is to try them and find the correct size thats best for him.

Thanks for your replies. I downloaded him an article about the importance of sizing. I will check into Afex, too. I just read something about it online, but wonder if he would find it too complicated to use. He is going on 70.

I'm a CNA at an elderly facility. I have one resident that needs help getting the condom cath on, but we only change it when it gets loose. We use an adhesive that looks like a lollipop stick to rub on the scrotum and then roll the condom cath on top to keep a seal. The resident gets it changed every 3 days to a week. There may be someone that has to help your uncle with this part. Shaving the area smooth will help with the adhesive a lot. Your uncle may be able to di it if he is not too shaky. Give him and chance and if he needs help make sure there is someone he can talk to without being embarrassed.

@maintenanceman - well, we went ahead and ordered an afex kit and so far so good. He is able to pull the briefs on and attach the leg bag with no problem

@roscoe121 - I did talk him into ordering a small batch of condom caths to try. We will see how he feels about them when they come in.

Thanks guys for all your help. Never know, I might need this information myself one day!
