I had a open surgery of Fibroids so please suggest after how much gap i should wait to start planning a baby?
Susannah D Copland, MD, MS responded:
I hope you are feeling well after fibroid surgery. How long to wait to try after surgery depends upon the extent of the surgery. Ask your surgeon how long he/she recommends waiting before attempting pregnancy. If the fibroids were predominantly on the outside of the uterus, the delay to pregnancy is likely short. If the fibroids went all the way through the wall into the cavity, your surgeon may want you to wait longer and to check the cavity before you try. Asking these questions will help you to be proactive in your attempts. As women age, fertility declines due to changes in egg number, quality, and function (here is a link to a helpful information sheet from American Society for Reproductive Medicine: ))
Asking your surgeon time to pregnancy questions ensures that you maximize not only surgical healing, but also egg quality and function.
All best wishes,
Susannah Copland
