Hey - you said you live in Northern Virginia??? Where at?? That's where I'm from My parents live in Fauquier County and I graduated from Fauquier High School. I actually grew up in Fairfax County though, moved when I was in high school to Fauquier. I went to Dogwood Elementary school in Reston - back before it burned down!!

Crazy! I graduated from fauquier too! Before you by a few years. My sisters both went to liberty - my sister was the first year of liberty.

I was offered a teaching job at dogwood the year it burned down... I was so happy I didn't take it! I ended up teaching in Vienna, and then back in Fauquier County (warrenton middle and then auburn - the new middle school).

I live in Haymarket now. Just up the street. My family still lives in fauquier - my sister and parents in warrenton and another sister in bealeton.

Ha! That's crazy! My parents live in Delaplane out near Marshall. Hilarious that you graduated from Fauquier too - it probably hasn't changed much haha. My brother went to Liberty, they had ROTC there. I didn't know that Fauquier got a new Middle School! They are going to need a new high school soon enough. It's a small world! I lived in Haymarket for like 2 years, my brother and I went to Gainesville Elementary the last year that it was open. The last time I visited up there, I could not believe how much Haymarket had changed since I was a kid. So many new homes and businesses! In fact, I used to work at the Sheetz in Warrenton when I was in high school, and I helped a few times at the one in Haymarket I also worked at the Wal-Mart in Warrenton when I was in school too lol

I'm jealous. DH and I went to on our honeymoon to DC and we totally fell in love w/ Fairfax County and even Baltimore. I would love to move out somewhere around there. My mom lived in Fairfax County for a couple years when she was a child. I wish we had gotten to go to the mall out there, you guys have HUGE mall.
    kjsimps responded:
Oh the Fair Oaks Mall??? I LOVE that mall. The mall here in Tallahassee is sooo small by comparison. I definitely miss the shopping in NoVA but I do NOT miss the COST OF LIVING. OMG it's ridiculous!!! A friend of mine and I tried to get an apartment near Leesburg and it was like $925 a month for 800 square feet!!! Unbelievable!!! We pay less than that for an entire HOUSE and a huge front and back yard here in Tallahassee and THAT is in Midtown!! Considered to be the most expensive part of town!! I would never live up there. My parents are trying to sell their house right now, and because the property values have gone up so high (even with the housing market crisis) they are going to profit like 400k on it! It's crazy!!

What a small world! I actually went to Tyler for k, 1, and half of second, and then to gainesville for the rest of 2nd grade and third grade, and then we moved to catlett. Actually, my family is local to the area - my dad and grandmother both went to Gainesville - my grandmother went there first through 12th grade! My grandfather had a car dealership where the sheetz in haymarket is...I live about 1/2 mile from it now, just up 15.

Fauquier got a new middle school, Auburn (like int eh new baltimore area) in 2005. AND a new high school (Kettle Run which is in the same area) 2 or 3 years ago (my cousin goes there) and a new elementary school too.

There's a great winery in Delaplane - Barrel Oak. I have friends from Marshall. I graduated from Fauquier in 93 - but my sisters are younger - one is 29 and one is 26.
    kjsimps responded:
WOW they did get a new high school?? It's about time. LoL I moved out of there in 2002 when I graduated, so I haven't been back but a few times to visit family.

I used to live up 15 just up from the Sheetz!! Okay - do you know where that old burnt out mill is that sits like right on Rt 66? Well just before that, also along Rt66 there is like 3 houses that sit along there, a big white one, a brick one, and another big white one that's closest to the bridge - we used to live in that big white house. People say it's haunted. I dunno about all of that, but some weird things happened while we lived there and my Mom later did some research and found out that it was once a barn that sat on a plantation property that was used as a hospital for the Confederate Army during the Battle of Bull Run - so go figure. LoL! That house was HUGE though. We only lived there for 2 years before moving to Delaplane.
    ladyjane1025 responded:
I'm picturing the mill - we hike over there... I can't really picture the houses there....I know there are 3 houses in a row on 55 before the railroad tracks....but on 15....I don't know.... I'll have to drive around a little to see it.

And ladies - regarding the malls - I love Fair Oaks but the BIG mall around here is Tysons which is actually 2 malls. I try to avoid it there because it is always so packed. But there are great restaurants up there. But there's also the Leesburg nice.

And yes, the housing market around here is ridiculous. My husband and I both have an hour commute to work. My office is in Ashburn (near Leesburg) and my husband works in McLean. We deal with the traffic and the commutes though because we live where it's a little cheaper (for the area). The houses in our neighborhood (4 bedrooms, finished basements, no land though) are going for $400,000 currently.... 10 miles closer to DC that might be the cost of a 2 bedroom town house. And in DC, that might possibly be a studio apartment in someone's basement.
    kjsimps responded:
OMG I LOVE Tyson! That's where the Rain forest Cafe is. That place is great! My Dad commutes into DC too, he works on 2 contracts, one for Metro Police in DC and one for FEMA building computer servers and GPS systems and stuff and he has to drive all the way into DC like 2 times a week and he hates it!! The drive on Rt 66 anywhere is ridiculous! Especially going through Manassas.

I cannot believe the prices of homes - my parents bought theirs for barely 200k back in like 1997 and now they are selling it for 600k!! It's amazing and ridiculous.
    ladyjane1025 responded:
Very sad to say the Rainforest Cafe is gone. I have no idea why, though.

And yes...I spend quite a bit of time on 66 every day!
    KirstienAlley replied to ladyjane1025's response:
Rainforest animals include things like smaller pesky insects, beetles as well as butterflies, spiders and also scorpions, snakes and reptiles, frogs and toads, birds, apes, and therefore the checklist continues. And they are simply to list those that we know.
