to have a period within 2 weeks of each other? I had a period on 1-3-12 and it ended on 1-9-12. I wake up on this morning, 1-19-12, with dark looking blood in my underwear; the same amount as my regular periods. I don't know what this could be. Has anyone else had this to happen?

David K Walmer, MD, PhD responded:
It is hard to know. Sometimes it can reflect a cycle that did not result in ovulation and sometimes midcycle bleeding occurs with ovulation because the estrogen level naturally falls for a short time right after the LH surge (ovulation signal from the brain). I would monitor it for the next month or so. You should also just make sure that you are not pregnant. Sometimes there is bleeding in association with a pregnancy. Good luck!
