LH Surge
dt927 posted:
Is it possible to ovulate before an opk shows positive for your lh surge?
David K Walmer, MD, PhD responded:
No. The LH surge is the signal to the ovaries to begin a sequence of events that will prepare the egg for fertilization and its release from the ovary. The surge appears initially in the bloodstream and then a little later in the urine. No one actually knows when ovulation occurs but it is not before 39 hours after the LH surge because IVF programs have demonstrated that the eggs can still be retrieved from the ovaries at this time point.
