    Really long cycles - Questions

    Hi all..

So for the past about 5 mos, my cycles have been 31-32 days, with a luteal phase of 13-14 days. This past month however, my cycle length will be 50 days before my period comes..I do have a history of long cycles ever since coming off the pill a few yrs ago. I once went 4 mos without a period then bled heavily for 2 weeks.

I had a Day 3 test done this cycle and it was within the normal range.

How can I get shorter cycles? This makes it extremely difficult TTC because of the long cycles. Are there any drugs my OB dr can give me? These long cycles are horrible. Any help would be great... Thanks!!

Lisa, Long, short or unpredictable cycles are more likely to be associated with cycles in which you are not releasing an egg. There are many reasons that this could occur even with normal day 3 (ovarian reserve) testing and it would be a good idea for you to see your gynecologist or fertility doctor. You could have a problem with an imbalance of your thyroid, prolactin, androgens, etc. The problem may be as simple to correct as giving you a few pills each month or it could be more complicated. Good luck!

Thank you for your reply! I appreciate the feedback.

My day 3 tests were normal.. She checked FSH, TSH and Estradiol.

    My FSH was 6.1 mIU/mL
    TSH - 1.88
    Estradiol - 39 pg/mL

I do ovulate on my own, that's why I'm not sure what's going on. I ended up ovulating on day 36 or something this cycle. I just got over my period 2 days ago. My period was normal. The last time this happened (earlier last year), I took Vitex and it regulated my cycles. I guess I will take it again in hopes that it regulates my cycles again... If it doesn't, then it's time to take a trip to the doctor....

When I had a long cycle last year, my OB dr at the time gave me Provera. That's when I went on Vitex.

    Well Thank you again!!
