this isnt easy for me to discuss. i got pregnant when i was 16. i was such a dumb kid. i thought it was just a really long period when in fact it was an ectopic pregnancy. i was scared to say anything cuz it went on for so long, two weeks. the doctor came in and said i was pregnant and i was so shocked that i didnt really understand or hear him when he said they were gonna have to go in and remove it because it ruptured my tube. in my child mind everything was going to be fine when i woke up from the surgery. i only remember bits and pieces of the cconversation with the doctor after the surgery. the one thing being that i was no longer pregnant. the doctor said one tube was completely damaged. now as an adult, the only thing i remember definetely that he said is that i have a slim to none chance of ever conceiving. what does that mean?! hearing that as a kid it was not a big deal but now as an adult, its tearing me apart. i dont want much out of life. i dont need fancy things or truckloads of money. i only want to be a mother. can you conceive with only one fallopian tube left and it being damaged? is invitro my only option??!?!?!?

What a stressful time that must have been for you! What does your current OB/GYN say about your fertility options? If you have not had a full exam, now is the time.

Here are some WebMD resources that can help you prepare a list of questions for your doctor so you can safely begin TTC:

my current ob/gyn says that because of my ectopic pregnancy and my current diagnosis of pcos that i must see a specialist. ive gone to one and he says we are going to start with an xray of my tubes. we did bloodwork last week and all "my numbers" are ok. the nurse called me yesterday to tell me. she sounded so upbeat about it. she said, "your numbers look fine so we just want to get a look at those tubes now". to me that says it is the tubes and my chances of being a mother are slimmer and slimmer. we are just waiting on the provera to make me start my period so we can do the xray. my family says to stay positive but how can i if i know that there is a strong possibility that i will never have a family of my own?!!! im sorry to go on and on. ive never talked to anyone or thought much about this until now. its kinda gushing out now.

Hello,
I am not a doctor but I have been through infertility treatments in the near past. Based on what I know you can conceive with one tube as long as the tube is open and working properly. But it might take longer than usual to conceive. For your pcos you might need medication to help you ovulate. Whether you need to go for IVF or IUI or try on your own will depend on the results of the xray (I am assuming thats the dye test) and your age.

Good luck

so i had my hsg and the doc says my tubes look "beautiful" considering the ectopic rupturing the left. my right one is flowing great and my left has some damage but there is still flow. i was so scared that we wouldnt see any flow. i was shocked at what i was looking at. when i had the ectopic pregnancy the doc said there was severe damage. all these years ive thought of myself as ruined. my current doc says that is not the case. we now know that my problem is the pcos. im going to start my first clomid cycle next month. i know i still have a long road ahead, but its different now. theres hope now. i feel different about this now.
