Irregular Cycles Since surgery last April

My husband and I have decided to start ttc so I got on the fertility friend website and have read all the articles about charting and I understand all of it. My concern is since having a surgery April of 2011 to remove about 10 lymphoids from my groin I have not had a regular cycle like I used to.
1 Month before the surgery the dr took me off all of the medicines I was taking except the antibiotics that somewhat controlled the swelling of the lymphoids, at that time I was on Deppo. I have a period about every 40-60 days now, before I was ever on the deppo my periods were like clock work.

I went to my gyno two months ago because I had a positive pregnancy test she did a vaginal exam and a blood draw. vaginal exam showed a bluish cervix and the blood draw showed my hcg level was 9.something (don't remember the last number right of the top of my head), went back 4 days later for another blood draw and the hcg was back to normal, pelvic ultrasound came next which showed nothing so they said it was a chemical pregnancy. called the dr office this past week to get in to discuss ttc and my irregular cycle and I was told by them that we need to try for at least a year before they see me about any concerns about the cycle and ttc.

So my question is what if anything do I need to be doing to get my periods back to normal and should I have any concerns with ttc.
I have just started tracking temps, and other signs hopefully that will help to tell me when I am ovulating, but any advice or comments would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks so much
