Hi,
I just found out at the end of may that I have an ovarian cyst. My doctor told me that I will have to get another ultrasound done this month to see if it's still there. I am now getting pains on both sides same pain I had when I had the first one.
My husband and I have been trying for our first child for really close to a year now. I was on the depo provera shot previously for 4 years. My menstrual cycle last between 7-10 days.
My question is...would it be a good idea to go on birth control? He told me that it can help. So if anyone has any ideas or anything please let me know..I'm driving myself crazy over here.
Thank you in advance.

Not all ovarian cysts are created equal. Most are just the follicle you make every month that releases the egg and then the cysts sticks around for a few weeks. Many times if a woman is having pains a cyst can be found but I feel a lot of the time the cyst is an unlikely source of the pain... it is just found incidentally. I do not know the nature of your cyst, so that is about as far as I can comment.

Regarding birth control. That can help prevent ovulation and thus prevent a new follicle (ie cyst) from forming. It will not make the one(s) you have go away. If they are going to go away they will do so spontaneously.

My vote.... no birth control and keep having regular sex if you want to get pregnant.

I trust your OBGYN will follow the cyst as he/she feels is necessary.
