Multiple Pregnancy Symptoms but not pregnant

Im 39 years old and have been activly TTC for the last 3 years with no luck. I had a D&C 19 years ago and a miscarrage 5 years ago. Since the miscarrage about 4-6 times a year I get multiple pregnancy symptoms (tender breasts, mild cramps and backache, nausea, exhaustion, smell sensitivity) that start shortly after ovulation with no positive pregnancy test. My period finally starts 2-5 days late and lasts usually 2 days longer than normal and is much heavier and more painful than usual. Is it possible im having missed pregnancies that often? Could it be a hormone imbalance? Or is it all in my head?

I made an appointment to see a Dr. next week to discuss but Im not even sure what questions to ask.

Joel Bernstien, MD responded:
Usually with pregnancy hormone levels below the cutoff of a urine test (which is about 20) a woman would not encounter symptoms of pregnancy. Maybe the hormone changes around ovulation and menses are triggering similar symptoms for you.

I am glad you are seeing your physician this week. I would just share with him/her that you have been TTC for 3 years without success to date. He/She will do the appropriate evaluation and discuss your options with you.

Best of luck.
