When should I take a HPT? Irregular cycle!!!

Hey everyone! My husband and I are on our second month ttc. I have a few questions because my cycles have been wacky and irregular. Background: For the last 2 months I have been having 38 day cycles. Last month I thought i was having implantation spotting but I started pink scanty spotting on august 25th (Saturday) and it lasted till I go a heavy AF on the 29th (Wed.) till that Saturday. First question is when did my cycle actually start, on the first day of the spotting or the full flow? Now starting at the beginning of this week (sept 16) my breast have been sore and as of tuesday I have had mild cramping (more like pressure in my pelvis) and backaches till yesterday (Thurs., sept 20th) I only have backaches and I had a little pink discharge in my underwear. I am hoping it was implantation, so if it was when can I take a HPT? I am so confused because I thought I was supposed to ovulate this week but if I was wrong about the cycle day 1 then it could have been last week when i ovulated. So I don't really know when my next period or missed period would be! Thanks!!

Welcome! I've noticed it depends on the dr what they consider the first day of AF. Some say first day of full flow, some first day of spotting, mine says when I have to use a tampon (I usually have a few little spots and I use a light pantiliner then it starts in full flow pretty soon). I would ask your dr what they want you to go by. If you haven't been charting long it is hard to say when to test, but if your last to cycles have been 38 days, I would wait until cycle day 39 to test. I would recommend trying aan ovulation predictor kit, they work for most people pretty well. If what you are experiencing is implantation you could probably test in the next 7-10 days. Me-24 DH-37 TTC 1 for 16 months. 3 rounds of Clomid, BFN's. 3rd cycle of Femara, Ovidrel, LP Progesterone. Added IUI this time. Blood test 9/18!

I agree with the other responder in that you should speak with you physician. If indeed your cycles are 38 days, this would be considered abnormal. Your doctor can help test to see if you are ovulating; and if you are not, he/she can help in order to increase your chances of conception.
