PCOS, Provera, and trying to conceive
MellowD posted:
Today, I visited my gyno with concerns about my (once again) abnormal period, annual exam, and to express interest in help getting pregnant.

First, let me give a bit of my history: I have been diagnosed with PCOS, although hormone levels were all within normal range when tested. Ultrasound revealed cysts on ovaries. The Dr. that made this discovery felt that it was not PCOS because hormones were normal, however my new Dr. believes it is PCOS because I exhibit other symptoms, such as unwanted hair and irregular menstrual periods.

My question is this; as I said I went to my Dr. today and told her that my husband and I are looking to get pregnant and have been trying on our own since January (no luck obviously). She instructed me to take Provera 10 days of the month starting today to stimulate my period. Of course I did not think of these questions while at her office, but how would Progesterone help me to conceive? I'm just curious about the science behind it and what likelihood of pregnancy exists while taking Provera.

That being said, if somehow Provera will help with becoming pregnant, when is the best time to try? Do we focus on the time that I'm taking the Provera, or after my period?

I'll be sure to ask my Dr. these questions as well but it would be nice to have additional information. Thanks so much!

Hi I know what your going thru I was also diagnosed with PCOS this March,I do have a 7yr old and a 3yr old girls so I was shocked as we were TTC.My OB/GYN also gave me Provera 10mg for 10 days my AF came 2 days later and it was hell as I went 4months without a AF,so I decide to go more of a natural way since I did not get a cycle in AUG what I did was a LEMON WATER DETOX first thing in the morning also took fertilaid3xday,spearmint tea1xday and fertili tea 2xday that was SEPT 7,12 and SEPT 9,12 I got my AF without provera. As for PROVERA my doctor told me that will need to take Metformin or Clomid for me to conceive, but at this moment I'm playing the waiting game to test as I had some kind of like implantation bleeding only when wiped so hopefully this helps me and may help you and others out there that are having problems TTC. BEST WISHES will updated you on results
