Just Diagnosed with DOR and trying to decide a course of treatment
chzqueen posted:
Hi! i'm 39 and my fiancee is 41 and we have just completed our round of fertility tests. We have been trying for 8 months but I knew that I was not ovulating on a regular cycle since April of this year. My OB said I might have PCOS and refered me to the endo/ RE and I had all the test done including a hystoscopy, where they found a small septum that was removed. But the dreded diagnosis of reduced ovarian reserve was the verdict but my love has "Super Sperm" so that is one less worry. We have to decide but until we decide what to try we are just going to give it the next two months trying again the old fashioned way. The cost of IVF is so huge and we need to get the money together. So our goal is to try in Jan. The dr advised we could try IUI but it is not going to give us that great of a chance like 10% but IVF is about 25% that could go up if they can get some quality eggs from me. No other issues just the lack of eggs. I am currently doing acupuncture and it has helped me relax and sleep again. The stress of all the tests and anxiety just cause me major sleep issues but that seems to have been corrected with the acupuncture. Any advise or suggestions I would love to have. I have been reading on here now for a few days and said let's get some thoughts from this great group. Thank you in advance.

hello... your story sounds similar to mine. I am DOR too.... my DH has 'super sperm', I had a hysteroscopy after IVF #2 and found a septum and it was removed... and I suffer from anxiety at times which really affects my sleep.. it was really bad during my first two IVFs. ... i do acupuncture too.

Can I ask why your RE diagnosed your DOR without any treatments? Is it based upon your AMH or FSH? What are those numbers?

If I were you I would not waste money or time on an IUI, but if money is an issue you could always try. The other thing too is with DOR I feel like my bio clock is really ticking and I have limited time left and can't wait too long. My AMH went from 1.2 a year ago to 0.4 now - ugh! the number may vary, but still it makes me think I don't have much time left with my eggs.

Welcome to this board, there is a great group of girls here!

Welcome to the boards! You will get alot of support from the girls on here.

Like Jessica said, what is your FSH or AMH? The money is tough. We have spent $30000 for the last 2 1/2 cycles. Now we are looking into starting donor egg cycles which could run approx $20000 plus meds. Our credits are maxing out.We are very thankful to have good credit.

I wish you all the best and hope that you will keep us updated on your situation. When is your wedding?

Take care.

Hi there! I too have been diagnosed with DOR (DH has mild male factor IF). My FSH was normal but my AMH was 0.5. They did an ultrasound to do an antral follicle count and they found that my left ovary didn't have any follies, and my right one only had a few. They also found a total of 5 endometriomas on my ovaries which is probably why my ovaries aren't functioning properly. They believe I have endometriosis, and want me to have laparoscopic surgery but they feel the risk is too large to damage the ovaries. So we are trying IVF/ICSI in Jan/feb. Luckily we have some money saved up but we'll be blowing through our savings so I really hope it is successful, we're only giving it one good try.

My best advise to you is to try to relax as much as possible. Worry wont change anything. I've learned this the hard way, and the stress is taking a huge toll on my body. Acupuncture is great, you should think about massage also. Spend time for yourself - take time with girlfriends to just go shopping, go to lunch. Whatever you can do to keep yourself distracted and happy. Good luck! Maybe we'll be cycle buddies.

we are going to elope. Both of us have been married and since we are looking at IVF, that makes it even easier to just tell the family were eloping. I don't know when but his plan is to plan it all and wake me up one morning and take me to get married then to a great resort and have our mini honeymoon. I'm happy about that so I don't know and it will be a big suprise!

Are you in Houston? I'm in Katy and reading some of your posts I thought you said you were in Houston.

yes I am. I live in town and work out on the west side of town. Who is your RE? My IUIs and #1,#2 IVF were with Dunn at Fertility Specialists of Houston. IVF #3 was with Gill at Houston Fertility Institute.

I work at the energy corradoor Eldridge and i-10 and I am seeing Dr Haddad at the Katy office of HFI. We really like him. Very informative and was very supportive of our decision to wait till Jan. is there a way to send e-mails here? This way we could talk off line or heck maybe even meet for lunch. That is so weird that we live here so close.
