Which severely scared my kidney to the point where they dont function that well. Now I am get UTI's alot and my urine smell like amonia. The ammonia odor is often a sign of infection. Bacteria can often break down urea into ammonia and water and CO2. There is a lot of ammonia and nitrogen bound up into urea and you can't smell it until it breaks down.

It can arise from other sources, but infectious bacteria are the most frequent cause.
