Typically your urologist will monitor over a period of time every 6 months, looking for changes etc. I had a Bosniak2F cyst that was 7cm; monitored for 1 year. Pursued a 2nd opinion as the 1st urologist only offered the option of removing my kidney. The 2nd surgeon recommended removal due to the size and my age (49) due to fact that if it grew larger, would require removal of my kidney and he upgraded me to a Bosniak 3 due to the rate of growth/size. I had it removed in December and feel fine (was benign) Most of these cysts (>90%) are benign. You may want to get a 2nd opinion just confirm the treatment plan and for peace of mind.

Sorry, for clarity, I only had the cyst removed, not my kidney:)
