Hi folks. I have been in serous pain (right side , lower back) finally went to the ER. they tested my urine, and said was a kidney infection with abscess. kept me in the hospital 4 days. I.V antibiotics and tube in back to drain the abscess. sent me home with antibiotics, and told me to follow up with my doctor....i did that , he looked at paperwork, and said i need a kidney biopsy ! no ultrasound, or cat scan ' I have fought and won stage 3b breast cancer, mastectomy, chemo, and radiation 2006, and thyroid cancer removal and radiation 2011. i just turned 45 last month. I believe i am a dollar sign to these doctors. so...i guess what i want to know is: should more tests be done before a biopsy ?please let me know what you think . .

    Hi alioopy and welcome -

It sounds like it is time for a 2nd opinion! You might want to do some research to find a specialist in your area to review your records.

This article about a kidney biopsy does mention that it is usually performed after other tests for kidney disease, such as blood and urine tests, ultrasound, or a computed tomography (CT) scan, show a kidney problem so I think your concern is valid! Kidney Biopsy Information

Best of luck to you - and please let us know what you find out!
