best solution to broken hip

In the hospital they told me that rods and pins are best for the infirm elderly but on the internet I found that they use hemi artheroplasty with the top of the femor replaced for the elderly and infirm. Does anyone know anything about this?

You should listen to the doctors and not the internet. The internet has no idea what kind of fracture was sustained. If you don't like the answers you get in the hospital then get another opinion frpm another surgeon that deals with the elderly.
