This is major major surgery....I'm 75 and have a knee problem for over 15 yrs....all worse since hip replacement in 2010.

Anyway, I know about Prolotherapy and would sure look at this if I were you:

Your surgery does not have to be done under local anesthesia, it can be done using a spinal block or epidural. They would prefer not to but if you insist they will comply. I know this because I did just that for my THR 6 years ago when I was a smoker and it worked wonderfully.
