knee pain with normal MRI & Normal xray

Four years ago I injured my knee while in basic training.
After time it healed, but I still get severe stabbing pain & ache and my knee clicks when I walk which causes stabbing pain.
I have seen several Orthopedics and my most recent Xray and MRI came back as normal.
He put my knee in a brace for 2 weeks and told me to stay off it, rest and keep elevated.
But the brace seems to cause more aching, I wake up at night with sharp knee pain that now seems to radiate in/under the kneecap.
I'm at whits end and am not sure what the cause is and what I should do.
