Pain after anterior hip replacement
avatar
tcousins posted:
I am scheduled for bilateral THR next month. I am having the direct anterior approach and was wondering how much pain is usual after this procedure and for how long. I have a friend who had replacements done with the posterior approach, at different times, and she said she had absolutely NO pain from day 1 for either one, but I am pretty sure she can't possibly be typical. And can anyone "feel" the implant in the hip, or does it feel like your natural hip (just without the pain).

That whole area of the anterior hip replacement 3 yrs ago does NOT feel normal, it is still sore and numb and I've had IT band damage from the surgery.....and Yes I can "feel" a heaviness in that thigh. I have been doing so much repair work just to get along.....good wishes....let us know how you do.

My neighbor had the posterior about 5 months before me and not the numb and sore issues I have....but she has a lot of other stuff going on which messes her up also.....
