Knee replacement and patella removal

My dad who is 87 years old had a knee replacement surgery. It went well but afterwards he fractured his patella which never recovered and had to be removed. Now he has stability issues and is on physiotherapy. Is there any brace or anything that will stabilise his knee without the patella in there? He underwent this operation to improve his quality of life but it was never meant to be. He is depressed now and I need something that will improve his condition. Can someone help please?
