Help! What do you do when the mess seems insurmountable?

I feel like reciting the speech from The Cat in the Hat: this mess is so big and so tall, there's no way I can get rid of it, there's no way at all, or something like that.

The only thing to do is to go eat dinner!

A guest is supposed to be coming over tomorrow, and there's no way I can get everything in order. Too bad. I don't know what to do, but I've decided I'm not going to stress myself out about it--She insists on coming.

I cleared the dining room table and put it all in a plastic vat that has a lid--That made things seem more manageable somehow. I'm going to try to keep the table cleared. I will work on the stuff in the vat 15 minutes each day until it is gone...

I really attacked the piles of paper and yarn on the dining area table. I made quite a clearing, too. It feels good to see the end--again, hopefully for the last time.

I'm going to get rid of a lot of handmade items that I've collected as well. I'm going to give away as much stuff as I possibly can, and if I can't give it away, I'm going to toss it in the trash--Whichever comes faster.

I got rid of three woven baskets, one which is older than I am but made so well, it doesn't look like it.

I got rid of old books and old videocassettes as well.

It's time.

I don't think it's insurmountable, but it is quite large again.
