my mom had been quit smoking for over 11 to 12 years, but did smoke for like 40 I think. well we were told she had copd, so we set up dr appts and did everthing we were told to do. she was not even on oxegen but for the last 4yrs and only went into the hospital this past may with shortness of breath she was only going to the dr. to get the ok to go to the dentist to have a tooth pulled and came home was getting better, even after teeth were pulled they said she had more use of her lungs then before. Then in Sept she went to the er and they said she had Pheumonia and put her ccu. she was there 2 days moved her to a regular room said she was getting better, they took fluid off her lungs and ofcourse the first time they said it got thrown out with out being test. She started feeling funny and then they took more fluid and a cantscan next thing they tell us she has 4th stage lung cancer and we lost her within 6 1/2 hrs. how can this be, why did they not see anything over the last 10yr of dr appt. something went very wrong . I lost my bestfriend (my MOM) and I dont understand what happened it was so fast.

  • I am so sorry for your loss. I don't know anything about cancer but I'm the one that posted after you about fighting my doctor for a spiral ct even though my xray was negative. They don't have any good screening for lung cancer and it seems they're perfectly content making a diagnosis when your on your death bed which is unacceptable for me because I want to be here for my children. I think its a sin that they didn't look further with your mother just to make sure she didn't have cancer but instead they just accepted the first diagnosis. But that would have meant a little further testing..I guess that's too much to ask for a chance to have saved your mother. I think you should sue anyone involved in not diagnosing your mother on time for her to have a chance to fight for her life. Maybe if you sue people like me won't have to fight a doctor to get a little further testing so I have every chance of being here for my children. Again I am so sorry, please let me know if you find out anything more.

My husband also smoked for 50 years and quit 7 years ago. He was diagnosed in september with stage 4 lung cancer. It is in his bones and liver also. He tried 1 chemo treatment and he was so ill he decided he did not want anymore. But like your mom he was in and out of the hospital with either heart of lung problems COPD,phenoma. He was always seeing doctors. Same with him why didn't the doctors run further test. I am sorry for your loss. But what I am deaingl with now is the worst experience I have ever experienced. Watching my husband who I have been married to for 33 years is slowly dieing. He gets a little worse every day. At times I can hardly bare it. The only thing I can say at least you did not have to go through this. This so hard to deal with.
