It saddens me every day that he is suffering so, hospice has gone in, they are doing a good job but i just dont want him to suffer any more. I hhear all this talk about stage 2, stage 4 etc, but noone has really said at what point he REALLY is. i guess for piece of mind I want to know how much longer He really has. It has matasticised to bones, and he seems a bit more confused could be the meds too? Could someone give me an approximate timeframe??

It would appear from your description that your father has stage IV lung cancer. It is at this point where the cancer has moved from the primary site to other parts of the body (in your fathers case, his bones).

If he is on pain medication, this can cause confusion. This is not necessarily a bad thing for the patient although it can upset the family. There is also the possibility that some of the cancer has also traveled to his brain and this too can cause confusion.

While no one can give you a timeline, someone enters hospice when the belief is that they have six months or less to live.

I feel your pain. No one knows a timeline my mom has proven 2 doctors and 2 hospices wrong for the last 3 weeks. However the hospice nurses seem to be the most accurate, you have to ask they will not come out and tell you. I wish you the best and that your Dad is free of pain during this journey.

I thought that your post was very informative georgiagail and not too harsh but empathetic, my mother was recently diagnosed with lung cancer and the next couple of days will be rough road to determining treatment. Also, I am new to the community, is there a way to introduce myself?

Hospice was the best part of my mother's journey. If you ask them they will be honest with you. I am thankful because my mother was not in any pain but she was very disoriented. Since she was not in any pain I decided not to give her pain meds. I wish you and you father the best. The doctor's told me my mother had about a month left and she was gone in 15 days. I agree 100% with the other post the hospice nurses are your best and most reliable resource.
