Perhaps he might be able to tolerate cold foods such as ice creams, puddings, milkshakes better at this time.

Many of our patients supplement their diet with one of the many liquid enteral products on the market; these are also best served cold or over ice at this time.

He also has a bad heart so is taking meds for that and resricted on how much fluilds he can have. He can not have surgery because of this.

When I work with cancer folks who are on fluid restricted diets and these supplements are ordered, I substituted the enterals for fluids that have "empty" nutrients.

For example, one can of this product would be substituted for 8 ounces of tea, coffee or soda. They can also be used as the liquid for taking medications.

If he was able to consume two cans per day (and using the products that provide 1.5 kcalories per ml) he would be taking in 700 calories per day but using only 2 cups of liquid to do so.
