My 75 yr old Mother was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer. Six months ago she was walking around her house and she fell while walking down the stairs, not too far but for someone of her age a couple of steps is pretty far to fall. anyway she injured her ankle. Six months later it has not healed and she is complaining of increased pain. she goes to have an x-ray done and they find a mass in her ankle. The doctors want to do more tests so they do more tests blood work and such. One of her doctors said that she needs to have the mass in her ankle biopsied, so they do that and the result returns back positive for cancer. they do a scan of chest abdomen and pelvis and find that the cancer has started from the lungs. they say they will radiate the ankle and there is th possibility of chemo for the lungs. I really ant her to be srong and get that fighter spirit. I am sad and very concerned. this is my first time on here, sorry for the self pittying.

velvetertle, you have every right to be concerned, as does your mother.
Oct '10 I put my back out and just could not get it to quit hurting. 5 chiropractor visits later I changed to a chiropractor/physical therapist. He insisted on an x-ray before maniplating my bones. Radiologist saw a spot on my lung and I was sent to a pulminologist. I was diagnosed with stg 4 non small cell in June of '11. Stg 4 because it had spread to my spine. I immediately did 3 wks of daily radiation to spine, followed by chemo once every 3 wks. I am still doing chemo, but it is called maintenance since one of the drugs in my coctail was taken away about 4 visits ago.
Please understand that everyone reacts differently to treatment. In my case, doc said I shouldn't get sick, shouldn't lose hair, but will never be cured. The radiation made me extremely fatigued and the only thing I wanted to eat was watermelon. I am not usually a big fan of watermelon, but that's what I wanted. The 1st chemo treatment left me even more fatigued, could not hold anything down and so, got dehydrated and had to go to hosp. for 2 days to get re-hydrated. Every treatment since the first has gotten easier. I do another this coming Weds. and I am not at all scared of it, now. And, I still have my hair!
I thank God that I put my back out and my regular chiropractor could not get it fixed. Otherwise, who knows how much farther the cancer would have gotten before I knew to start fighting it.
Give lots of love and understanding to your mom as she goes through this and I will be praying for her and her family.
