Hi, I have been trying to research about lung disease. My son who is nine is scheduled to have the top left lobe of his lung removed.they dont know if it is cancer but in his ct scan the whole top lobe is pretty much black.they were saying it was a cyst that was full of air.but looking back from an xray when he was a baby they saw it was there way back then so they arnt sure now. all they know is it is still growing. so they decided to remove it. So my question is how hard is the recovery. He is a strong little guy(50 lbs) it will be his tenth surgery so I know he is a fighter but as the surgery gets closer I am starting to freak out!! I just want to know that he is going to be alright. any advise would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks

am on my 3rd week of recovery from surgery, dawn. i was in icu for 4 days, and went home on day 6. it's my first lung surgery and first cancer process, so i don't have much to offer. my oxy level is great and i've had no problems breathing or shortness of breath. i got a virus this week, and that has been difficult. from my limited experience i suggest keep anyone who has a cold or virus away from your son. also be sure they keep him on enough pain medication that he is comfortable. i'm happy i did this - my cancer is all gone and i don't need chemo or radiation. i'll be thinking of your son and hoping for great results!
