My mom just turned 70. Smoked since she was 19. Diagnosed with stage IV non small cell lung cancer. Don't know the specifics yet as the first biopsy was really a brushing and was inconclusive. Second biopsy next week. She has two lymph nodes with mets each about 2cm and one brain met near the basal ganglia about 2cm.

Oncologist told her whole brain radiation and lung radiation at the same time then start with chemo as soon as brain radiation is complete. He said she would feel better from the radiation and that the only side effect would be hair loss.

Somebody please tell me the truth. Does anyone live after this for more than six months? Thank you,

Like you My mom has smoked for 50 years and in February she was Diagnosed with lung cancer with mets to the brain we guilted her into having radiation, By guilting i mean the doctors told us she would have a good year if she had the radiation and weeks if she didn't and as her child i want my mother here.. Well 2 days after she finished the radiation my mom was put into a hospice house and she passed away 3/18/12. If i had to do it all again would I??? NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! who knows how long she would of had if she didn't have the radiation.. Good Luck with your decisions They are NOT Easy to make..
