Terrified of lung cancer possibility

On Saturday i went to my local ER for gall stones and they did a chest x-ray. On Sunday night the ER doc called to inform me they found a hazy 12 mm nodule at the top of my left lung and my white cell count was high. He said that they compared my prior chest x-ray from 4 months ago and nothing was there then so he wanted me to get in to see my doc within 72 hours. What else could this be besides cancer?
