lung mass

Can someone help me understand this? After Cat Scans and a Pet Scan, a mass was discovered on the lobe of my right lung. Due to the location, a needle bio would not work. The doctor did a bronschopy. He said he see anything. This was in December. Last month he ordered another Cat to see if the mass has changed size. It hasn't. His "plan" is routine cat scans to keep an eye on it. I was told by his nurse that he probably couldn't see it because the camera (in the broncoschopy) only shows the front of the chest. Therefore, she said, it must be behind the lung. My question is...why do you suppose he's just 'keeping an eye on it' and waiting to see if it changes size? By the time it changes size (if in fact it does), it will probably be far gone and have already spread. My cousin's an Oncologist but lives out of state. She has my medical records and is sure it's cancer. So, why do you suppose we are simply 'watching' (and waiting) for something to change? Thanks for any help you can offer.
