Plaque deposits in!!
gringa1 posted:
Hello everyone, I've had lupus for the past 4 yrs. and past 2yrs have had sore throats, horsed and past yr. have been developing deposits of plaque making it difficult for me to swallow and painful at times.
I saw my rhuematologist and he said that lately pt.'s have been coming in with sore throats something going around, nothing to be concerned with. My dentist says I should get my tonsils removed cause I have a cleft on my tonsil which causes the plaque to build.
Has anyone else encounter this matter??
I would love to hear from you.
R Swamy Venuturupalli, MD, FACR responded:
Patients with lupus are prone to upper respiratory infections due to altered immune activity. Additionally, dry mouth can lead to recurrent infections and whitish plaques due to a yeast infection of the tongue. Please discuss with your physician if you are suffering from dry mouth and related complications.
SafariMom responded:
I think that the plaque that you are having is called, Tonsil Stones.

As far as I know, they don't have anything to do with Lupus. They are embarrassing, but I have them also. The only thing that I have found that really keeps them from forming is something called There Breath. It is a special mouth rinse. You can also use the toothpaste. I believe that you can still buy it at wal-mart or online here

I just noticed that they have a solution for cancer sores, if you get those because of your Lupus.

If tonsil stones is what you have, then I hope this info helps.
