What is the difference between discoid lupus & the systemic one? I was diagnosed with lupus in August '12, but they have never told me which type I have. So, I'm trying to figure it out! Right now, I'm starting remission, so am hopeful that I won't have a flare anytime soon!

Discoid lupus affects the skin, systemic lupus affects the whole body.

A form of lupus dermatitis that can be isolated to the skin, without internal disease, is called discoid lupus . When internal organs are involved, the condition is referred to as systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE).

Thanks for the info. I think SLE is the one I have, since more than my skin is affected. Time will tell. I just fought a round with the flu, & the dr told me because of the autoimmune disorder from the lupus is why it hit me so hard. For now, anyway, I seem to be in a period of remission with the itchy part. I still have the rash on my hands, nape of my neck, & cleavage, but it's not driving me crazy. Thank the Lord! Have a blessed day.
