I am trying to help a young girl who has been diagnosed with RA. She is afraid that she also has Lupus. Is this possible?

Yes it is possible. She needs a double stranded DNA test to confirm. If the ANA test comes out positive, then it's probably lupus too. They do have many of the same symptoms though.

I have a friend who has both. She was diagnosed with Juvenile RA when she was 10 by her late father, a family doctor; and with SLE when she was 32. The RA has given
her more trouble than SLE over the years.

If it's any consolation to your friend, my friend will celebrate her 55th birthday shortly.
