Methotrexate Side Effects
MaryConcordNC posted:
I found this tip in the community discussions, and it has been most helpful for me. I was having severe stomach reaction to taking 6 methotrexate at once. Also, about 60% of my hair fell out while I was taking it for the first six mos. Someone suggested splitting up the pills, and I checked with my rheumatologist. He indicated that as long as I took all the pills within 24 hours, it would be OK to spread them out to multiple meals. This greatly helped my stomach discomfort and diarrhea, and (this maybe coincidence) my hair loss stopped, and my hair started growing back in. Warnings:
1) Never change meds without checking with your physician.
2) My immune system may have eventually adjusted to the methotrexate and the hair improvement maybe coincidental.
Now nearly 18 mos. later, my hair salon specialist said I have more hair than most women my age!
