Progesterone and Testosterone Replacement Therapy in Men
An_206289 posted:
If a man is taking progesterone and testosterone replacement as recommended by the doctor what would be the outcome on sperm production?

Would you normally see an increase in quantity and motility?

or a decrease?
fredblue responded:
Reason the male is on these is to treat low testosterone and low progesterone.

Taking testosterone will often result in lowering sperm production or even render the man sterile. This can sometime be reversed with hCG injections but some men will remain sterile. You are not correcting the low T problem in the body, only masking it by giving T supplements. Your body in turn reduces it's own T production because it becomes dependent on the supplement.

You should work with your urologist to find the cause to your low hormone levels and find a way to address the cause. A semen analysis will also be a good idea to see where your sperm production and quality stands.
