Is there an age range where male fertility decreases?

My husband and I have been talking about starting a family. We have some anxieties about becoming pregnant because he is 40 and I am 28. Is there an age range where male fertility decreases? Also, would there be any underlying risks to the baby if we were to conceive?

Men do not see a huge impact from age on fertility as women have but they can see a slight decrease in production and quality of sperm with age. As long as he has a healthy lifestyle his fertility is likely perfectly normal. Check for my post on sperm healthy lifestyle guidelines. Again the risks are very minimal for men and him being 40 is not old since we see a majority of our patients over 45 still having healthy babies and even see men in their mid-60's having no problems.
