What causes low sperm volume?

My wife and I have been trying to have a child, but have been unsuccessful. We both have undergone several tests to evaluate both of our fertility. Each time I have had to give a semen specimen, I have had low volume samples. The Dr. says that the samples look good, but the volume is only around 1mL. What causes the low volume, and what can I do to increase the volume?

A low sample volume can be caused by the stress of having to collect for a lab test. Does it seem like your collection is not 100%? The effort actually does make a difference and it is likely you have a larger volume during regular intercourse. Dehydration is another facto that can cause low sample volume. As long as all the other parameters are normal, a sample volume of 1 ml is not a big deal.

If the volume is very low, under 0.5 ml, and there is little to no sperm seen your doctor would look into retrograde ejaculation or obstruction of the ducts. Since you mentioned everything else looking good I assume that means you sperm counts and motility are in the normal parameter.

As far as being 100%, I don't really know. I have given a sample at 3 different times and they were all about the same amount. Yes the counts and motility were normal. Is there any way to increase the volume?

Just keep up your fluid intake is about all you can do to boost that volume. You should also take a look over Dr. Marks' Sperm Healthy Lifestyle Guidelines that I've posted to ensure you're not doing something in your day-to-day life that can harm the sperm.

WHAT TYPE OF OVER THE COUNTER DRUGS SHOULD I LOOK FOR TO HELP PRODUCE MOTILITY, SPERM COUNT, AND VOLUME?

there are herbal supplements like fertilaid products or MEGA MAN GNC with contains all the vitamins and nutrients a man needs to be able to produce healthy and viable sperm. but like any new regiment it may take up to 3 months to see results. look up the information on the gnc website take it to your doctor and see if he or she agrees that it has enough of what you need and if not they can suggest other foods that contain what you need to gain the rest.

hope this helps.
