Melanoma / Skin Cancer Community

Last year in August, my father died. They listed 3 reasons on his death certificate, the underlying reason metastatic melanoma. I'm interested in finding out as much as I can about this disease. I've done some searches on the internet, but they don't seem to have the information on the type my dad had. He had a mole on his back, a biopsy showed it was malignant, upon mapping the tumor the doctors thought they could get it all with surgery. They did warn my dad that cutting through the tumor would cause the cancer to spread. Spread it did. It caused tumors both inside and outside his body. The ones on the outside were very bad. They were black and extended from the middle of his back under his arm around to his chest. They would bleed and fall off. According to what he said his doctors said they had never seen this reaction to metastatic melanoma before. I'm interested in perhaps trying to form a charity to raise money to fund research for this particular cancer for finding a way to diagnose early and a treatment that is effective. My dad went to M D Anderson and paticipated in a few treatments but they weren't for curing the cancer or making it go into remission, it was for cosmetic purposes only. To cause the tumors on his back and chest to fall off. The treatments caused more harm than good in the opinion of one of his other doctors. Any information would be helpful.
