I've posted before, have new question regarding Carac cream

Hello,

Now that my melanoma on my hand has been fixed, I've started on a Carac cream regimen of 30 days for my face.

Would one of the experts here please direct me to a forum where I can ask questions about side effects? I am having extremely vivid dreams that I have not had before as well as several bouts of diarrhea. My face looks like a truck ran over it but that is 'normal' reaction to this cream. I'm very tired and can sleep hours upon hours and then wake up not knowing where I am or who I am. Also, esophageal reflux like never before.

I'm normally a pretty logical person but these "phenomena" are not something I experience on a regular basis. I'd like to connect up with other Carac users or at least get some assurance that I should continue with this treatment. I'm hesitant to call my dermatologist because this may be very normal reaction and I would just like to connect with other Carac users for some moral support.

Thank you. This past year has been an 'eventful' one. I am extremely fair skinned, was NEVER a sun bather or tanner, but suffered multiple 2nd degree sunburns as a child because my mother, God rest her soul, was advised in the early 50's to 'toughen' my skin by repeated burns and peeling.

Hi Millicent,

I am sorry you have been having these symptoms.

To find out about Carac Cream , our Drugs & Medications Center has tabs for Side Effects and more. We also have patient reviews to see what others have experienced.

Please do contact your dermatologist and FDA Medwatch (1-800-FDA-1088) to report your side effects/symptoms, the more feedback given the better for improvements in the future.

Thank you for updating us and please keep us posted to let us know how you do after finishing the cream.

Hope this is helpful and - Here is to a very uneventful rest of year after finishing up treatment!

Thank you Elizabeth for your reply. I didn't know about FDA Medwatch and I will go there and report my symptoms.

I did call my dermatologist and she said that as long as I do not get constant gut problems and worsening diarrhea that I shouldn't worry about the possibility of the enzyme deficiency I've been reading about. She did tell me that if anything gets worse systemically that I should go to the ER (which is closer to me than her office) and get checked out - especially concerning the diarrhea part. She suggested I use Aquafor on my face after I wait two hours after applying the Carac. I tried that and it made it sting even worse. So I opted for neosporin and that seems to cool things down enough to sleep. She didn't offer pain meds and I didn't ask for them. With the neopsporin I can manage it. Today my face swelled up a lot. But it is now not swollen.

I have many more AK than even she thought I had. It is amazing how the parts of my face that haven't been affected by AK remain unburned and unaffected. It is also interesting how parts of my face light up later than the original redness.

All in all, I am happy I did this. Especially since the melanoma surgery... I now know I am not immune to such things.

I'll be back with a report on how things are after the cream is finished.

Just two days to go until I'm finished having to apply the cream. I've read a lot about many people saying that their skin is baby smooth and less wrinkled after completing and healing.

In my case, my worst areas are my nose and my cheeks and along my hairline and forehead. I do have a few hot spots on my lower cheeks.

Am I going to end up looking like I had a half-baked cosmetic peel? Has anyone ever seen someone who looks strange because they have wrinkles that are interrupted by smooth areas? I'm OK with the wrinkles and never contemplated plastic surgery or a chemical peel to reduce them.... I just don't want to end up looking like a checkerboard! If anyone has experience with splotchy and sprinkled keratoses and the "mask of smoothness" interrupted by wrinkles in areas that didn't react to ther Carac, I'd love to hear how you feel about the end results. Thanks.
