Squamous cell cancer

A month ago I had major surgery at Memorial Sloan Kettering in NYC for squamous cell cancer on my left cheek. 13 hours and then two weeks stay and a flap was put on to cover all the skin removal. I'm now told that I need more radiation and some chemo therapy. After a CAT and follow up with a Rad/.Oncologist Dr. on Friday this week, I'm asking for some insightful help on just how much more treatment I might need? I was told a few wks. ago that we need to stay out in front of this. This aggressive form of cancer after 2 other major surgeries and 35 rad. treatments in just over 2 yrs. beforehand, has become a real and lasting nightmare.

I hope one of the expert dermatologists would reply to your question because I am no authority on the treatment phase.

I have had squamous cell cancer before and it was located on my neck, however it was caught very early and removed with clear margins.

I wish you the best.

Just a note to say thanks for your support. A Dr. now suggest we have 6.5 wks. of radiation and some limit chemo therapy. My reaction to this is please let it be the end.

Sorry I couldn't be more help, however it sounds as though you have a plan in place at least.
I hope you continue to let us know how things are working out.

Now round 2 of infusion and chemo pills. Lip sore hasn't healed and bumps( 4 ) have shown up around the flap on my left cheek.. Beginning to wonder if I'm ever going to see the end of this...? Radiation wasn't part of the plan after all. I'm not sure, in hindsight, if that was such a good idea.to not include this.
