lymph node dissection

I have been diagnosed with Stage 3 melanoma, with microscopic metastasis in the Sentinal lymph node. In about 3 wks I am scheduled to have axillary lymph node dissection. Partly so I can be eligible for a clinical trial.
Anyone who has had this procedure can tell me how it went? I am 66 yrs old but in good health.

I had a similar diagnosis and surgery just over two years ago. I am doing well with no recurrence (knock on wood) of the cancer. The only drawback I've had from the surgery is a loss of feeling/numbness down the back of my upper arm and slight pain in the armpit itself. Edema is also a risk but so far mine has been very slight.

Hope this, helps and good luck with your procedure
