Strong Vaginal Odor
An_240709 posted:
I am 55 yrs old. I have a strong vaginal odor. I had a hysterectomy about a year ago (for prolapse). I have cronic vaginal (bacterial and fungal), urine, intestinal infections. Even when I do not have an infection there seems to be an odor. The odor is so strong that it is affecting my job performance. The doctors do not seem to comprehend the extent of the problem. I have seen Gyn, gastro, urologist, as well as my general practicioner. Next week I will see an Infectious disease specialist.

Does anyone have any advice?

I wish I had info for you and I will watch this post because I want to know about this. There are some days that I feel as if I have an odor but I just try to make sure I keep clean more often. (Not to say that you don't seem to do this as I am quite sure that you do!)

Best of luck and please keep us posted.

Dear An_240709,
Some women do notice an odor. Post menopausally, the type of bacteria in the vagina can shift-(secondary to a lack of estrogen in the tissue). A couple of non hormonal remedies could be tried: one is an over the counter remedy called repHresh, which balances out the pH in the vagina, making it more acidic. You can use it several times a week. Another option that some folks find helpful is to place yogurt with live cultures in the vagina (using a tampon as an applicator)-it introduces "good guy" bacteria (so called lactobacilli) and may help restore a healthy environment. Some women do well with vaginal estrogen, in cream, vaginal tablet or ring form-because with vaginal estrogen, you can help restore the normal vaginal bacteria, which will help keep away the "bad" bacteria.
So don't give up-lots of things you can try!
Good luck,
Mary Jane

What about coconut oil? Someone else has posted that this is helpful. I am in need of something, this is so embarassing. I find that I am washing my dress clothes way more often than I normally would. I also, buy new underwear alot more frequently and this has not helped.

Try repHresh Pro B - its a probiotic feminine supplement for women. It helped me - only 1 capsule a day - in one week I already am noticing less odor.
