Are These Perimenopause Symptoms?

Hello!
I'm 42 years old, almost 43. My periods arrive within a day or two each month but do fluctuate from light flow to heavy from month to month. Over a year ago I started experiecing the following symptoms; sleeplessness, daytime fatigue, pain in my joints, muscle weakness, I have both cold and hot flashes, foggy mind, pounding heartbeat, I feel like I have adrenaline rushing through my body almost all the time, I feel like I'm trembling inside but no one else can see it, I have trouble sometimes formulating my words, and there are days I feel like I've been drinking for hours, I get lightheaded. I think that's it I finally have wonderful health coverage and at a recent physical with my PCP he said my symptoms sounded like I had started the perimenopause process but did some blood work. I was Vitamin D deficient but otherwise the thyroid and blood sugars were good. I saw a new gyno last week and when I discussed this with her she went crazy saying that none of these symptoms are perimenopause, I was too young, because my PCP is a man she was frustrated that he dismissed my symptoms as perimenopause related. She also did blood work for anemia, the thyroid again, a full blood panel and everything came back normal. I feel like I'm going crazy and am not going back to my PCP for more tests to rule out other issues. I have had 2 friends say they went through some of these same things with perimenopause. Any thoughts? Am I going crazy? I am working on diet and have started yoga 3 days a week which are great. I sometimes get exhausted just trying to keep things "normal" when my body is going crazy Thanks!!

Dear Chcograd93,
I would increase your vitamin D, and keep up all your good habits, like healthy nutrition and yoga. One option would be, presuming you are in good health, a trial of a month or two of birth control pills. If all your symptoms resolve, I think you can say that they are likely related to perimenopause; and if you feel well with them, you can stay on them. And if you decide to go off that's fine, you'll at least have an idea of what caused these symptoms. Perimenopause is often a really difficult diagnosis to make; and the important thing to do is rule out potentially "bad things", and keep you comfortable.
Good luck,
Mary Jane

I am 43 and having some of these same problems. I sometimes have night sweats which don't bother me. My main aggravation is the pounding hearbeat. It mainly happens at night and keeps me up. I get scared and that makes me feel worse. They usually occur before or during my period. I mark my calender when it happens and it is pretty regular. My Gyn is giving my a low dose estrogen patch to see if that helps, I hope it will. My doctor gave me a low dose of metotoprolol which slows heart rate to take when it does happen. I hope this info helps you. Your post makes me feel better knowing someone else has this symptom and at my age. I haven't seen a lot of posts concerning pounding heartbeat.
