Is this related to Menopause?

Hi everyone. I'm 48 and haven't had a period since I was 29 yrs old. I had cervical cancer and had a hysterectomy done then. Everything was removed with the exception of one ovary, which was to help with the estrogen. I started going through menopause about 9 years ago. It's only begun to get worse in the last 6 years and have been suffering for a while. My husband heard about a natural diet supplement and I started taking it everyday and the general symptoms of menopause have really eased up, if not gone away completely. Zalestra...I highly recommend it! Anyway...this afternoon my husband and I were talking and he told me that I run in my sleep. Literally, my feet are constantly moving in my sleep. Yes, i have pain in my legs, hips, knees and ankles and have been told I have RLS, as well as the possibility of arthritis. Yay for me...lol My question is...is this or can it be related to Menopause? If so, are there any good treatments for it? I really do need my sleep. So does my husband. Any advice would be so appreciated. Thank you!

So sorry you're dealing with this! I had a hysterectomy with ovary removal 6 years ago. The consequences on my body and health have been devastating. A decent level of estrogen has helped all symptoms (except the post-hyst changes to my figure).

Women who have a hyst and still have both ovaries usually go through menopause about 4 years earlier. And studies show this happens even earlier if there's only one ovary. I also wonder if the menopause tends to be more severe since the uterus and ovaries work together.

Low sex hormone levels can cause the joint pain you have. Also, it seems that RLS is common after menopause so this may also be related to low estrogen. I know women who've had relief of these types of symptoms with estrogen replacement. Some say that testosterone is also helpful, at least for the joint pain.

Hope this helps! Post back and let us know if you find something that works..

Thank you so much for the response...I have been on the testosterone replacement and the only thing it did was add about 40 pounds to my frame. I was put on that after surgery 5 years ago for a tumor that was removed from my abdomen. The hot flashes were so horrible my Oncologist put me on it for relief. Needless to say, it didn't work.

It's a struggle. Not that I'm whining or anything. But until I turned 41, I never knew what my older sisters and my mother were going through. Now I have a new respect for all of them.
