Post menopause spotting

springtimesunshine posted:
I have been menstrual free for 5 years. I have recently been experiencing alot of stress in my life along with the return of hot flashes, occasional light headedness and joint aches. I have on two occasions experienced extremely light pink spotting that lasted all of about 2 days. I am also at the end of my 5 year regimen of tamoxifen after a lumpectomy in 2007.

I've had no other symptoms and am wondering if this could be another adjustment of hormones due to menopause.

Mary Jane Minkin, MD responded:
Dear Springtimesunshine,
Certainly stressors can do a lot to the body. I would let your gyn know about the spotting; although it could be related to the stressors, tamoxifen can have an effect on the lining of the uterus, so your health care provider will most likely start with either an ultrasound or endometrial biopsy to evaluate the spotting. The hot flashes of course could be related to the stressors; you might want to try something like Remifemin (black cohosh) which is not estrogenic, and fine to use after a lumpectomy-to see if it would help you.
Hope you feel better soon,
Good luck,
Mary Jane
