ok im new to this site. i dont have really anyone to talk to about this so im trying on here. i have been having perimenopausal symptoms for about 4 yrs now. night sweats (bad ones) mood swings, irregular periods that are only light pink and have been that way for about a yr now, and a few other symptoms like changes in my sex drive. here recently, probably the last 6 months my periods (still light pink) have only lasted 2 days if that . my last period was 2 wks ago and today when i woke up i had light red(not pink) blood on my toilet paper, but not in my urine. i eat healthy, dont drink soda, drink plenty of water, and only drink 100% juices. i sent my husband for some cranberry juice hoping this will help. it doesnt feel anythig at all like a bladder/urinary tract infection though. has anyone had these symptoms before? i know people are going to say im too young for perimenopause but my mother started hers when she was 38. i am 40 now by the way. any information on this would be oh so helpful! thanks again!

Mary Jane Minkin, MD responded:
Dear Sweetphughes,
Family history is important in this area; and with Mom's early menopause, that does make it likelier that perimenopause is quite likely to be going on here. Have you spoken to your health care provider about these symptoms? For very young women particularly, like yourself, if you are a good birth control pill candidate, a low dose pill could be quite helpful for many of your symptoms-the irregular periods, the night sweats, mood changes-so do speak with your health care provider about giving a low dose pill a chance for a couple of months, to see if it helps.
There are many other options, but those tend to work fairly well.
Good luck,
Mary Jane

Hi Shelley, a friend of mine encouraged me to search for cold therapy for hot flashes (actually, she told me to use frozen meat... I searched for cold therapy). I did and found "coldfront."

I think it's a new company. They seem to have a pretty active Facebook community with a lot of other women like us! You should definitely check it out.

I just started hot flashing and sometimes I feel like no one understands... especially the guys!
