Premature menopause

onlyme33 posted:
I went to my docotors last week for the results of my blood tests to be told im going through premature menopause, which did explain alot to the way i've been feeling, the hot flushes which have been driving me nuts. I'm only 33 though and devastated by the news. been told theres still a little time to have kids as i dont have any as yet, but only about two years. I'd also need help to conceive which at present im not even in a relastionship. I've started using HRT patches hoping this will help with the symptoms but is there anything else i can to to help ease them and even maybe slow the process down... i shouldn't be going through this at my age

Mary Jane Minkin, MD responded:
Dear Onlyme33,
You definitely want to be under the care of a reproductive endocrinologist, and I would see one in the near future if your current care giver is not a subspecialist. Occasionally there can be a reversible part in someone entering menopause as early as you are. The other reason that you want to see a reproductive endocrinologist is that there are some relatively new techniques available to freeze eggs (as you are not in a relationship yet); until very recently, infertility docs only had the option to freeze embryos (so you had to have a partner to preserve the possibility of having a baby). But you want to attend to this in the very near future.
Good luck,
Mary Jane
