My last period was in January 2012, Nothing for nearly 8 months. Then in the matter of 3 weeks I had two short but heavy periods. I just turned 46, but had a tubectomy done when I was 20. Is this normal.

Dear Lnepoose,
Alas, until we go for a full year without a period, we cannot be termed fully menopausal, and indeed it is not uncommon for periods to begin again. The bleeding you are describing is most likely related to having built up a lining of the uterus, without having ovulated. If this type of bleeding persists, do check in with your health care provider, who will most likely be able to help with this, through the use of progesterone in some form.
Good luck,
Mary Jane
