Pain and bloating, ovulation type discharge in Menopause???
An_248234 posted:
Just wondering if anyone has had ovulation type symptoms during menopause. Have been menopausal for 1+ years but still having ovulation type symtpoms, including the "discharge" issue. I am so uncomfortable during these times, although Aleve does seem to help a bit. Have been to see my OB/GYN, but no female available in our area. Suggestions???

Dear An_248234,
Indeed, you certainly may still be having ovarian activity; if the ovaries are there, they are still likely to be manufacturing some hormones, even while not actively ovulating.
However, I'd like to bring up a point to all our readers: there are some fabulous male gynecologists in the world, and some really awful women: gender doesn't make a good gynecologist-someone who is kind and listens, and is a good doc is who you want to be taking care of you.
Of course, to get back to the issue of the discomfort, if pain does get more aggravating, and the gynecological exam is normal, remember that the intestines hang out right on top of the ovaries and uterus-and discomfort from irritable bowel and diverticular problems can mimic gyn issues. So if the discomfort does become worse, do pursue it with your primary care doctor as well.
Good luck,
Mary Jane
